If you add to that total another 4.7 million people who have given up looking for work and those who want to work fulltime but can find only part-time jobs, the actual unemployment rate rose to 10.4 percent in March.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the underemployment rate in 2002 was 9.6 percent, or about 13.5 million people.

3.4 million Americans have lost their jobs just since President Bush took office. We will soon be in the longest jobs recession since the 1930's and the Great Depression.
